THE LORD'S SERVANTS SPEAK HIS WILL WHEN MOVED UPON BY THE HOLY SPIRIT(D&C 67:1-9,68:3-9)

The Lord’s Servants Speak His Will When Moved Upon by the Holy Ghost

Daily Scripture Light — June 23, 2025

Alt text: "A living prophet speaking the Lord’s will with an open scripture, symbolising revelation by the Holy Ghost"

Keywords: prophet, Holy Ghost, revelation, scripture, Doctrine and Covenants

📖 Verse of the Day: “And this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!” Doctrine and Covenants 76:22 “And whatsoever they shall speak when moved upon by the Holy Ghost shall be scripture…” Doctrine and Covenants 68:4

Daily Reflection: In a world filled with conflicting voices, knowing which voice to trust is a daily challenge. The Lord, in His wisdom and love, has called prophets and apostles — His authorised servants to guide His children on earth. But their power does not come from intellect or position. Their authority is sacred, flowing only when they are moved upon by the Holy Ghost (D&C 68:3-4). This principle teaches us a vital truth: God does not abandon us. He speaks today, just as He did anciently, through inspired leaders, and we can recognise His voice when we are spiritually in tune.

Morning Motivation: As we begin this new day, let us remind ourselves: the Lord still speaks. We do not walk alone. His prophets walk with Him, and when they speak by the Spirit, they speak as the mouth of the Lord (see D&C 1:38).

Challenge of the Day: Pause and study a recent message from a living prophet. Write down the part that resonates most with you and apply it today.

Bible Story: Samuel Listens, Eli Hesitates

In 1 Samuel 3, the Lord called a young boy — Samuel — to be His prophet. While Eli, the priest, had grown spiritually dull, the Lord bypassed him and chose the pure-hearted Samuel. Three times, Samuel heard his name and thought it was Eli calling. But it was the Lord. “Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth.” (1 Samuel 3:10) Samuel teaches us that even youth can become vessels of the Spirit when they are humble, obedient, and listening. Prophets — old or young — are not defined by age, but by revelation.

Testimony from Living Prophets: President Russell M. Nelson once said, “You don’t have to wonder what is true. You do not have to wonder whom you can safely trust. Through personal revelation, you can receive your own witness that the teachings of living prophets are true.”— “Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives,” April 2018

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland also testified: “Prophets are not perfect men, but when they speak under the influence of the Holy Ghost, their words carry the will of the Lord.”— General Conference, October 2007

These inspired leaders remind us that even though prophets are human, their authority is divine when the Spirit confirms it.

 How to Apply This Today:

Pray daily for the Spirit to guide you as it guides the Lord’s servants.

Study recent talks and apply at least one teaching method in your life.

Defend truth courageously but with love when the world mocks prophets.

Follow the Spirit, because the same Holy Ghost that inspires prophets can whisper truth to your heart.

Final Thought: The Lord’s voice is not silent. His Spirit works through chosen servants. Let us listen with humble hearts, obey with faithful hands, and walk in light as modern revelation continues to guide the faithful. “He that receiveth my servants receiveth me” (D&C 84:36).
